How Woodlake Village I was built
Woodlake Village I is the larger and later of two Woodlake associations on the same street. Its 181 units across 7.9 acres were laid out in September 1979, while Woodlake Villas, a quarter mile south on the same Idaho Street frontage, came two years earlier and covers more ground with fewer homes on it.
All of it stands on what was Rancho Canada de La Habra, 6,698 acres granted to Mariano Reyes Roldan in 1839 and sold to Abel Stearns in the 1860s. After drought and flood broke the cattle trade the valley went to walnuts, citrus and avocados, and Vista Del Valle Park, 26.68 acres of natural park further down Idaho Street, is the nearest thing left to open ground.
