How Malvern Creek was built
Malvern Creek is a west Fullerton townhome community of 267 homes built around White Water Drive, and its owners association was created in 1978, which places the construction at the end of that decade. Whoever named the streets committed to a theme and stayed with it: Creek Side, Millstream, Sandbar, White Water and Windsong. The water is not imaginary. This side of town drains into Fullerton Creek, a tributary of Coyote Creek that runs about ten and a half miles from Fullerton Dam down to the San Gabriel River system.
When these homes were new, the landmark on Malvern Avenue was not a shopping center. Hughes Aircraft ran a plant from 1957 on former orange grove northeast of Malvern Avenue and Gilbert Street, building the air defense and air traffic control systems that replaced the country's SAGE network and went to governments overseas. At its peak the Ground Systems Group employed fifteen thousand people and took in more than a billion dollars a year. Its 293 acre campus was redeveloped between 2001 and 2004 into Amerige Heights, the housing and town center where people here now run their errands.
