How Sunny Ridge was built
Sunny Ridge is in west Fullerton, just west of Gilbert Street and north of Malvern, and it was not built in one go. County records put Monterey Place at 1973 and 1978, Carmel Circle at 1979 and 1983, and Ramada at 1981, which is why the neighborhood is a mix of attached townhomes and detached houses rather than a single repeated plan. The lots are small, and the whole thing was laid out around shared greenbelt rather than around private yards.
Somebody in the sales office was thinking about the Monterey Peninsula. Carmel Circle, Monterey Place and Cypress Point Drive all borrow from the golf coast three hundred miles north, and they sit beside Spanish names that belong to Orange County: Loma Vista, Plaza de Tierra, Plaza de Vista, Plaza Escondido and Ramada. Reading the street signs in order is a decent summary of what a Southern California developer thought sounded like the good life in the middle 1970s.
