How University Gables was built
The whole of University Gables was recorded on a single day, 23 June 1997, on two maps filed together. The city's parcel record splits the neighborhood 161 lots to 128 between them and assigns every lot inside the boundary to one or the other. All 31.1 acres carry one Planned Development zone, so the 218 homes here were approved as a single scheme rather than lot by lot, one of only three neighborhoods in this guide built that way.
The streets are universities, and the selection says something about who the developer expected to buy. Harvard, Princeton, Cornell and Dartmouth cover the Ivy League. Notre Dame, Georgetown, Loyola and Marquette cover the Catholic colleges. Stanford and Pepperdine are the California entries, Duke and Vassar fill out the thirteen, and Sorbonne reaches further than any of them. University Drive runs through the middle of it, with Chapman Avenue along the edge.
