How Presidents Tract was built
Adams, Buchanan, Fillmore, Garfield, Grant, Harding, Harrison, Hayes, Hoover, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Madison, McKinley, Monroe, Pierce, Roosevelt, Van Buren and Wilson. Nineteen presidents on 139 acres, and the list stops where it stops for a reason. There is no Truman, no Eisenhower and no Kennedy, so whoever drew this grid was working from the history books rather than from the newspaper, and the neighborhood carries a nineteenth century flavor even though the houses are all postwar.
About 646 homes fill the boundary on lots near a seventh of an acre, bounded by Knott Avenue on one side and Western Avenue on the other. Knott Avenue is named for Walter Knott, who leased ten acres in Buena Park in December 1920, took over six crossbred berry plants from Rudolph Boysen in 1932 and gave the boysenberry its name, then built Ghost Town in 1940 and turned the family farm into Knott's Berry Farm in 1947.
