How Glenbrook was built
Glenbrook belongs to Brea's first big suburban wave. The oil boom had run down by the 1940s, the citrus that replaced it was in decline by the 1950s, and once the city tied into the Metropolitan Water District the flat southern ground could take real subdivisions. Leadership Homes built the tract between 1966 and 1971, and the city counts 502 homes across 146 acres, with most built between 1967 and 1971 at a typical size near 2,017 square feet on lots of about a sixth of an acre. Residents have their own Brea Glenbrook Club with a pool, playground and clubhouse.
The street names are borrowed from England. Devonshire, Westmoreland, Dover, Windermere, Brittany, Castlegate, Moorpark, Chevy Chase and Victoria give the tract its accent, and Amberwick, Larkstone, Greenbriar, Heather, Hillhaven and Ravencrest were invented to sound like more of the same. It is the naming fashion of the mid-1960s tract builder, and it sits oddly and pleasantly on a city whose main roads are named for oil men.
