Scout Trail covers 38 acres above Imperial Highway, and its six streets are named for the trades of the frontier: Cowboy, Pathfinder, Prospector, Scout, Settler and Trapper, nine tenths of a mile in all. History

            How Scout Trail was built

Frontier, Trapper, Scout, Settler, Pathfinder, Prospector and Cowboy are the streets of two adjoining neighborhoods on this hillside, and the naming is a single scheme split across them. It is the cast of a western: the man who traps, the man who scouts ahead, the man who files a claim, the family that stays. Scout Trail holds most of them, with Trapper Lane running through into Haven Hill next door.

Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the Nohl Ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972, and the city bought a separate 300 acres for a golf course that Richard Bigler laid out and that opened the same year. Scout Trail carries a wide spread of build dates, from 1964 through 1985 with 1981 the median year, so a few houses here stood while the cattle were still grazing around them. The ninety five homes sit on lots of around twelve thousand square feet and forty two of them have a pool. Twelve hundred acres of the wider community were annexed from the Bauer, Oak Hills and Wallace ranches in the mid 1980s, and nearly a thousand acres went to public agencies to keep the slopes open.
