            History

            How The Hamptons was built

Twenty three streets and every single one of them is a court. Four are English: Piccadilly, Soho, Greenwich and Chatham. Eight are first names: Constance, Gretchen, Haley, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn, Ryley, Carey and Rex. The other eleven wander off the map entirely, Ashbury, Astoria, Avon, Edgewood, Ensley, Greenborrow, Kirra, Lembogan, Sherrelwood, Southside and Sydney. It is 219 homes on 16.4 acres.

The Hamptons was built in 1994, two to four bedroom townhouses of 1,061 to 2,517 square feet. By then the city was two thirds built: the county had approved the master plan in 1979, the first homes had sold in March 1982, and Aliso Viejo would not incorporate until 1 July 2001, when it became Orange County's thirty fourth city on a 93.3 percent yes vote.

            FAQs

            Common questions about The Hamptons

How big is The Hamptons, and how many homes are there?

Measured against the boundary the City of Aliso Viejo publishes, The Hamptons covers 16.4 acres. The city's address layer records 219 addresses inside it, across 47 mapped parcels, which works out to 13 addresses to the acre.

Why are there twenty-three street names on sixteen acres?

The city's address layer names twenty-three distinct streets inside the boundary, the second highest count of the fifty communities here and the highest relative to acreage. Every one of them is a court, and the names run from Piccadilly, Soho, Greenwich and Chatham to Astoria, Sydney and Kirra.

            Which schools serve The Hamptons?

Capistrano Unified's own address locator returns Canyon Vista Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Don Juan Avila Middle and Aliso Niguel High, and it returns the same three at every interior point across the boundary. Canyon Vista is 0.27 miles away and enrolled 533 students on the 2024-25 federal count, Don Juan Avila Middle 0.87 miles with 863 and Aliso Niguel High 0.96 miles with 2,563.

            When was it subdivided?

Six maps cover it, recorded between 20 December 1993 and 18 April 1996. James R. Crawford signed the first and Crosby, Mead, Benton and Associates engineered the other five, all signed by Alvin S. Levy. Thirty-five of the fifty communities here carry an earlier first map. A recorded map dates the subdivision rather than the buildings on it.

            What parks are nearby?

Oak Park is 282 feet from the boundary at 2.4 acres, with a basketball court, a tot lot, a picnic table and walkways. Westridge Park at 2.5 acres is 927 feet off, Acorn Park at three acres is 2,460 feet and Grand Park at 7.9 acres is 2,613 feet. All four are kept by the Aliso Viejo Community Association.
