How Pacific Grove was built
The name comes from the town on the southern edge of Monterey Bay that was founded in 1875 as a Methodist retreat and incorporated in 1889, best known for the monarch butterflies that winter in its Monterey pine and eucalyptus. The five streets inside keep faith with it and name trees: Beech, Chestnut, Maple, Poplar and Sequoia, with Pacific Grove Drive running through the middle.
Pacific Grove was first built in 1993, three and four bedroom single family homes of 1,200 to 2,257 square feet with vaulted ceilings, gas fireplaces and large back yards, 138 of them on 15.3 acres. The county had approved the Aliso Viejo master plan in 1979 and the first homes in the city sold in March 1982, so this is a middle period neighborhood.
