Overview
About Glenwood
Glenwood covers 63.9 acres, the third largest of the fifty Aliso Viejo communities on this site, and holds 319 addresses across four mapped parcels. Eleven streets run inside it and almost all take Santa Barbara county names: Alisal, Anacapa, Cabrillo, Coronel, Old Mission, Playa, Rincon, Santa Barbara and Summerland, with Emerald Terrace and Golf Drive alongside. The zoning is not one of the city's ordinary residential districts but a specific plan written for this ground alone, covering 60.1 acres, and the general plan layer gives it seven different land use codes, more than any other community measured here.
Vista Park, a City park, touches the boundary. Ridgecrest Park at 13 acres is 320 feet away with a tennis court, a basketball court, a garden and lighting, Pinewood Park at 6.1 acres is 510 feet, Brookline Park at 6.8 acres 647 feet with sand volleyball and a basketball court, and Wingspan Park at 15.5 acres 1,075 feet. Capistrano Unified's own address locator assigns this ground to Oak Grove Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Aliso Viejo Middle and Aliso Niguel High.

How Glenwood was built
Read the street signs in Glenwood and you are reading a map of Santa Barbara. Anacapa, Cabrillo, Rincon, Summerland, Alisal, Old Mission, Playa, Coronel and Santa Barbara Drive itself. Anacapa is the small volcanic island nine miles across the Santa Barbara Channel, whose name comes from the Chumash word Anyapax, meaning illusion or mirage. Old Mission Road takes the name of Mission Santa Barbara. Summerland and Rincon take the coast south of the city. Whoever named this village was homesick for a different stretch of California.
Another street is called Golf Drive, and that is the other half of the story. Glenwood is built around the Aliso Viejo Country Club, whose twenty seven hole course was laid out by Jack Nicklaus and his son and opened in 1999. The village itself is older, most of its homes going up in the late 1980s and the 1990s, and it holds several separate neighborhoods inside it, Glenwood Village among them.

FAQs
Common questions about Glenwood
How big is Glenwood, and how many homes are there?
Measured against the boundary the City of Aliso Viejo publishes, Glenwood covers 63.9 acres, the third largest of the fifty Aliso Viejo communities measured for this site. The city's address layer records 319 addresses inside it across four mapped parcels.
Why is the zoning different here?
Glenwood sits under a specific plan written for this ground rather than one of the city's standard residential districts, covering 60.1 acres of the boundary. It is one of only two of the fifty communities here in that position, the other being Vantis. The city's general plan layer gives the ground seven different land use codes, from VDR and LDR through VHDR, with 0.7 acres coded NC.
Which schools serve Glenwood?
Capistrano Unified's own address locator returns Oak Grove Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Aliso Viejo Middle and Aliso Niguel High, and it returns the same three at every interior point across the boundary. Oak Grove is 1.33 miles from the boundary and enrolled 569 students on the 2024-25 federal count, Aliso Viejo Middle 1.2 miles with 803 and Aliso Niguel High 2.39 miles with 2,563.
When was Glenwood subdivided?
Three maps cover it, each taking in the whole boundary: Tract 14449 recorded on 15 December 1992, Tract 16969 on 27 October 2005, and an amended Tract 16969 on 21 February 2007. That last one is the most recent recorded map touching any of the fifty communities on this site. A recorded map dates the subdivision rather than the buildings on it.
