            History

            How California Renaissance was built

Six streets, six names from Florence and Venice: Giotto, Donatello, Michelangelo, Titian, Cellini and Medici. The first four are artists. Cellini was the goldsmith and sculptor who wrote one of the great autobiographies of the sixteenth century. Medici is not an artist at all but the banking family who took control of Florence in 1434 and paid for most of the rest, Cosimo as patron and then his grandson Lorenzo the Magnificent, who ruled from 1469 to 1492 and became the period's most important buyer of art. Put a street sign in that order and you have the whole system: the makers, and the money that made them possible.

California Renaissance was built in 1989, 202 units on 22.3 acres, two story townhome style plans with two car garages, within walking distance of the Aliso Viejo Country Club, whose Jack Nicklaus course opened a decade later in 1999. Titian, the one street it shares with Altisse next door, is the seam where the two Italian themed communities meet.

            FAQs

            Common questions about California Renaissance

How big is California Renaissance, and how many homes are there?

Measured against the boundary the City of Aliso Viejo publishes, California Renaissance covers 22.3 acres. The city's address layer records 202 addresses inside it across twelve mapped parcels.

            Which schools serve California Renaissance?

Capistrano Unified's own address locator returns Oak Grove Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Aliso Viejo Middle and Aliso Niguel High, and it returns the same three at every interior point across the boundary. Aliso Viejo Middle is 1.11 miles away and enrolled 803 students on the 2024-25 federal count, Oak Grove Elementary 1.59 miles with 569 and Aliso Niguel High 2.42 miles with 2,563.

What are the streets named for?

All six carry the names of Italian Renaissance figures: Cellini, Donatello, Giotto, Medici, Michelangelo and Titian. Titian also runs in Altisse alongside, and the two communities share the recorded map that created this one.

            When was California Renaissance subdivided?

Tract 13243 was recorded on 22 April 1988 and covers the whole boundary on its own. Ten of the fifty Aliso Viejo communities on this site carry an earlier recorded map. A recorded map dates the subdivision rather than the buildings on it.
