How Ocean Heights was built
The 1988 agreement that finally released this coast protected more than 6,000 acres of continuous open space and kept 1,600 acres private, and construction across Newport Coast began in 1990. Ocean Heights is the association behind three later neighborhoods. Perazul came first with 98 homes between 1999 and 2001, then Strada with 42 homes in 2000 and 2001, then Cassis with 66 homes between 2001 and 2003. All of it was annexed into Newport Beach on January 1, 2002, while Cassis was still being finished.
The names cross languages in a way that tells you which builder was working where. Via Diamante and Via Ambra are Italian for diamond and amber. Strada is simply the Italian word for road. Cassis is a fishing port on the French Mediterranean under the limestone cliffs east of Marseille, and it is also the name of the blackcurrant liqueur. Perazul borrows the Spanish azul, blue. Overlook Drive, the busiest street in the boundary, gives up on all of it and says what the place actually does.
