How Madrid Fore was built
Madrid Fore sits within the Madrid group of neighborhoods that the City of Mission Viejo's own history places among the earliest built in the master-planned community, opening in 1971, just five years after the first Deane Homes went on sale. It carries forward the Spanish naming written into James Toepfer's original design guidelines, Madrid being the name of Spain's capital. The Madrid Fore Homeowners Association itself, a smaller cluster of 97 units within the wider Madrid area, was created in 1974 as the Mission Viejo Company kept building out the surrounding hills through the decade.
The Fore in the name comes from what sits directly next door: the golf course now known as Oso Creek Golf Course, designed by Ted Robinson in 1970, with underground springs and mountain runoff feeding streams that weave between its holes. Homes in Madrid Fore back up against those fairways, and the neighborhood park bearing the same name, Madrid Fore Park on Via Oceano, sits wedged between golf holes along Montanoso, close enough that visitors are still warned to watch for stray shots. The course, later taken over and improved by the City of Mission Viejo, gave the neighborhood both its second name and its backyard view.
