            How Mirador at Rancho Niguel was built

            A mirador is a lookout, and the community sits on level ground looking out over the valley. It was subdivided under a single map recorded in 1988 and names Rancho Niguel Master Community Association as its master, one of thirteen communities in the city that do, which keeps the old land grant's name attached to a place built a century and a half after the grant was made.

            The Laguna Niguel Corporation bought the Daguerre share in 1959 and had Victor Gruen draw a 7,100 acre town plan, and AVCO Community Developers took over in 1971. Mirador holds 265 addresses on nineteen acres, and all ten of its streets are Spanish: Via Luis, Via Fierro, La Gallina, La Pantera, La Mangusta and El Montanero among them.
