How Del Prado was built
Del Prado holds 425 addresses on 32 acres. Seventeen streets run through it and all of them are Spanish: Via Catalina, Via Del Agua, Via Las Palmas, Via Azul, Via Mirada and Via Terracina among them. It was built in 1989, the year the city incorporated.
Lewis Moulton and Jean Pierre Daguerre bought in during 1895 and built a 22,000 acre sheep and cattle ranch, which their families divided in 1951. The Laguna Niguel Corporation started the modern city in 1959 on a plan by Victor Gruen, the architect of the first enclosed shopping mall in the country, and AVCO Community Developers carried it on from 1971. Del Prado is flat ground at the end of that story, every home draining to Aliso Creek.
