            Huntington Bay

Sixteen acres and two hundred and fifty-three homes, all built in 1964 on streets named for English places.

            Overview

            About Huntington Bay

Huntington Bay covers 16.1 acres measured against the city's published boundary and holds 253 residential addresses among the 256 the address layer records inside the line. Only one address carries a unit designator and the assessor classes all 253 dwellings as single-family residential. Seven named streets serve them across 0.77 miles, six of them English: Holburn, Ascot, Piccadilly, Margate, Ramsgate and Hull, with Disney Circle the exception.

The homes are among the smallest on the register. The assessor's median building is 1,100 square feet on a median lot of 770, with a tenth to ninetieth percentile band of 594 to 1,254 square feet, and 166 of the dated structures are two story against 86 that are single. Twenty-eight addresses carry a pool. City zoning splits the ground 69.6 percent residential medium high density and 30.4 percent residential medium density. The community sits outside the Coastal Zone appeal jurisdiction, no city park land falls inside it or within 250 meters, and the bus stop layer records six stops within that distance.

            History

            How Huntington Bay was built

Every one of Huntington Bay's 253 homes carries a 1964 build year, on about 16 acres, which means the whole neighborhood was framed and sold inside a single season. Its streets are a small tour of England with one Californian intruder: Piccadilly, Margate, Ramsgate, Ascot, Holburn, Hull and, oddly, Disney Circle, which had opened its park twelve miles up the freeway nine years earlier.

The land underneath grew lima beans, asparagus, peppers, celery and sugar beets, and Holly Sugar ran a plant that processed it before being converted into an oil refinery. The Newland House, built in 1898 for the pioneers William and Mary Newland and their ten children at the center of a 500 acre agricultural ranch, is the oldest residence in the city and it is still standing as a museum.

            Schools serving Huntington Bay

Huntington Bay sits inside Huntington Beach Union High School District, and the district's own published attendance boundary places the whole community in the Edison High area. Census TIGERweb puts the boundary inside Fountain Valley School District rather than the Huntington Beach City district. That district's school locator, queried at three interior points here, returned Oka Elementary and Talbert Middle at every one.

            FAQs

            Common questions about Huntington Bay

            When was Huntington Bay built?

In 1964, without exception. The assessor record carries a year built on all 253 homes inside the boundary and every one reads 1964. The single recorded map over the ground, TR 5206, was recorded on 28 January of the same year.

            How big is Huntington Bay?

Measured against the boundary the City of Huntington Beach publishes, it covers 16.1 acres and holds 253 residential addresses on seven named streets running to 0.77 miles.

            How large are the homes?

The assessor's median building is 1,100 square feet on a median lot of 770 square feet, among the smallest on the city's register. One hundred and sixty-six of the homes are recorded as two story and 86 as single story.

            Who surveyed Huntington Bay?

Richard G. Kempa signed TR 5206, recorded 28 January 1964 at MM 193/48-50. The same surveyor recorded Huntington Continental eleven months earlier and Village Townhomes eight months later, and all three communities carry English street naming.

            Which schools serve Huntington Bay?

Huntington Beach Union High School District's published attendance boundary places the whole community in the Edison High area. For elementary and middle school the boundary sits in Fountain Valley School District, and that district's locator returns Oka Elementary and Talbert Middle, agreeing at all three interior points tested.
