            Overview

            About Greystone Keys

Greystone Keys covers 14.2 acres measured against the city's published boundary and sits entirely inside the Holly-Seacliff Specific Plan area. The address layer records 183 addresses inside the line and types 150 as residential, all classed single-family by the assessor, with one carrying a unit designator. Nine named streets serve them across 0.73 miles and every one begins with the word Park: Park Meadow, Park Ridge, Park Bay, Park Glen, Park Field, Park Forest, Park Haven, Park Brook and Park Path.

The assessor's median building is 1,647 square feet with a tenth to ninetieth percentile band of 1,543 to 2,022, on a median lot of 2,621 square feet, and two addresses carry a pool. City zoning reads the whole boundary as specific plan designation and the general plan designates 74.6 percent of it residential medium density. The community sits outside the Coastal Zone appeal jurisdiction, and Green Park lies within 250 meters of the line. The city bus stop layer records no stop inside the boundary or within that distance.

            History

            How Greystone Keys was built

Greystone Keys sits within half a mile of Huntington Central Park, and every one of its streets begins with the word Park. Park Meadow, Park Ridge, Park Bay, Park Glen, Park Forest, Park Field, Park Haven, Park Brook and Park Path make up the entire plan, on about 14 acres. All 150 homes were finished in the 1990s, between 1994 and 1998.

The park it points at has a story most people never hear. The Freeman River once flowed year round out of the peat springs in what is now Central Park, with more water coming from springs in Talbert Lake and Blackbird Pond, and it ran down to the Bolsa Chica marsh. The Bolsa Chica Gun Club, whose members included Henry Huntington and Edward Doheny, hired Tom Talbert to dam it. The dam was finished around January 1900, cost 10,000 dollars, and stood fifty feet wide and twenty feet above the water line. Celery farmers downstream tore fences down over it and the case ran until 1907, when the state supreme court held that the Freeman was a drainage ditch rather than a navigable stream and the club could keep its dam.
