How Pinehurst at Coyote Hills was built
Pinehurst went up in 1995, a gated development on the slope north of Bastanchury Road between Brea Boulevard and Associated Road, with 109 homes behind one gate on private streets. The golf course followed a year later. Cal Olson laid out Coyote Hills Golf Course with Payne Stewart, and it opened in 1996 on ground that was still producing oil. Fullerton has never dressed this up. The city still writes an oil overlay into the zoning on more than 19 of the 20 acres inside this boundary.
The street names are the developer telling you what he thought he was selling. Annandale Way, Edinburgh Way, Palmetto Terrace and Saint Simons Place are all lifted off the golf map, and so is the name over the gate.
