How Valley View Circle was built
The explorers got the best streets. Camino Cabrillo, Camino Ayala, Camino Cermenon and Camino Galvez take Spanish navigators and officials, Vista Vizcaino, Vista Moraga and Vista Mendoza carry on the list, and Drake Street, Fremont Lane, Carson Way and Bidwell Drive bring in the English and American men who followed them. It is an unusually deliberate set for a neighborhood laid out across old grove land at the western edge of Yorba Linda.
Two oil fields meet under this community. The state's Brea-Olinda field covers 198 acres of it and the Yorba Linda field another 234, with 32 plugged wells inside the boundary and Olinda Fee Four the largest lease among them. That first name is the older story: Edward Doheny moved onto the property in February 1897 and drilled the first well in the Olinda field about 700 feet down, and it came in at about fifty barrels a day. By October 1898 he and the Santa Fe had drilled ten wells there, none of them deeper than 900 feet, and the boom town of Olinda grew up over the surrounding hills.
