About East Lake
East Lake covers 651.8 acres and holds 1,814 addresses on 1,878 parcels, at a median lot of 0.216 acres. Zoning is 357.6 acres Planned Development and 107.4 acres Residential Suburban, and every one of the 1,474 planned development parcels sits in the city's district 10, which is unusually singular for a zone this size. The city flags 1,412 of the addresses as being in a homeowners association, more than any other zone it draws. Seventy-one named streets carry 20.08 miles of centerline, forty-three segments of it private, and almost all of them are Spanish: Via Adela, Via Almeria, Via Andalusia, Via Badalona, Via Burgos, Via Cadiz, Via Cartagena, Via Castellon and dozens more.
The trail network runs 6.79 miles inside the boundary across twenty segments, and nine of those segments are the only trail in the city that the layer attributes to a homeowners association rather than a public body. Twelve segments are paved. Two parks sit inside: Kingsbriar Park on 12.1 acres at 5560 Kingsbriar Drive and Shapell Park on 6.8 acres at 5510 Vista del Mar, the latter with a playground, restrooms, a baseball field, barbecues, picnic tables and parking. The 2025 fire hazard severity layer rates no part of this boundary at any level, and the flood layer keeps 651.7 of the 651.8 acres in zone X. The state landslide zone layer covers 38.3 acres and the city flags 109 addresses as sitting in one.

How East Lake was built
East Lake was Shapell's. Nathan Shapell founded S&S Construction in 1955 with his brother David and his brother in law Max Webb, and the company went on to build East Lake in Yorba Linda. The city's planned development zone sets an East Lake Village Center at the heart of it, and Village Center Drive still runs through the middle of the community. Shapell Park, 6.8 acres inside the boundary, carries the builder's name, and the lake the community is built around is what gave it the rest.
The Spanish streets divide into two countries. Via Badalona, Via Burgos, Via Cadiz, Via Cartagena, Via Castellon, Via Lerida, Via Manresa, Via Murcia, Via Santander, Via Talavera, Via Tarragona, Via Vigo and Via Zaragoza are all Spanish cities and towns, with Via Oporto just over the Portuguese border. Then Via Habana, Via Varadero, Via Manzanillo, Via Tapaste and Via Tarara are Cuban.
