How Tustin Village II Condos was built
Tustin Village was built in 1964 around Montego Way and Townhouse Drive, one of the earliest condominium communities in the city. Its neighbors on Williams Street are older still in a sense: a 200 space mobile home park opened there in 1963, and another at Saddleback in 1966, all of them part of the same rush to house people arriving faster than Tustin had ever seen.
Through the 1960s the city's population grew by 1,012 percent, to 22,313. It had incorporated in 1927 with about 900 residents and had spent the intervening years as a citrus town. Annexation and tract building were the dominant civic issue from 1955 to 1965, and the groves went in that decade.
