How Estancia Condos was built
Estancia was built in 1989, among the first residential projects finished after Tustin annexed this ground. Its streets, Mira Monte Court and Paseo Circulo, are Spanish, in keeping with the naming used across the older part of Tustin Ranch.
Estancia is a Spanish word for a ranch or a landed estate, which is close to literally true of the site. The Irvine Ranch was put together in 1864 by James Irvine and his partners out of three adjoining Mexican land grants, about 185 square miles in all, and the part of it that became Tustin Ranch was farmed in citrus right up to the 1980s. Some 2,257 acres of it came into the city.
