How Meredith Parkwood was built
Meredith Parkwood sits on the old ground between Santa Ana and Tustin, and the roads still say so. Columbus Tustin, a carriage maker from Northern California, founded the town to the east in 1868 on 1,300 acres bought out of Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. Tustin Avenue and Old Tustin Avenue run down this neighborhood's eastern side, and Mabury Street comes up through the middle of it.
The houses arrived in one wave. Of the 303 homes here with a known build year, 271 date from the 1960s and the typical one from 1968. The street names run in sets, Millwood, Peachwood, Pearwood, Plumwood and Ridgewood on one hand, Avalon, Catalina and Mirasol on the other. Almost the whole neighborhood is served by Tustin Unified rather than Santa Ana Unified, a school boundary that cuts across the city line.
