How Ranchwood II was built
Ranchwood II names its streets after the gear a working rider carried. La Cincha is the cinch that holds a saddle on, Las Alforjas the saddlebags, Via Jaquima the hackamore, the bitless bridle whose Spanish name came into English as that very word, Calle Vaqueta the tanned cowhide it was all made from, and El Arreo the act of driving the herd. Los Pioneros and Calle Ranchera finish the set.
That vocabulary is not borrowed from somewhere else. This was the O'Neill family's working cattle ranch, and the homes date from 1986 and 1987, the first two years of construction anywhere in the city, and run to around 1,600 square feet. There are 133 of them on 16 acres.
