How Bella Ventana was built
Bella Ventana went up in 1989, three years after the first homes in Rancho Santa Margarita went on sale and one year after Hughes Aircraft moved its microelectronics division onto the plain, which was the moment this place stopped being a distant subdivision and started being a town with jobs in it. The ground beneath is the Plano Trabuco, the upland of the old O'Neill ranch, bought by James Flood and Jerome O'Neill in 1882 and held in cattle until the master plan arrived.
The name means beautiful window, and the streets inside it are a small produce stand: Pomelo is grapefruit, Rabano is radish, Baya is berry and Anana is pineapple. Four streets, four things you would find in a market, on fourteen acres holding a bit over two hundred attached homes. SAMLARC lists Bella Ventana among the sub associations that sit under the master association, which means these owners share the Lago Santa Margarita, its Beach Club and the swim lagoon with the rest of the city's SAMLARC villages.
