How Lake Park West was built
Lake Park West is one of the Lake Forest II neighborhoods, part of the master association established in 1970 that covers 3,436 homes and operates the Sun and Sail Club. The lake in the name is Lake 2, a man-made lake at the center of the old ranch, where Occidental Petroleum built houses through the eucalyptus in the late 1960s. Neither the lake nor the forest existed a century earlier.
Lake Park West holds 354 homes on 48 acres and nineteen streets, with a median lot of 5,580 square feet, and the city's address record shows exactly one address per home across all 354, the pattern of detached ownership. The build year layer puts nearly all of it in the 1970s, and there is no shared pool inside the boundary because residents use the Sun and Sail Club.
