How Grandview Crest was built
Grandview Crest sits on ground that was part of Rancho Canada de los Alisos. That grant ran to 10,668 acres, made in 1842 by Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado to Jose Antonio Serrano and enlarged by Pio Pico in 1846, and it was cattle country until the drought that began in 1863 killed the herds and forced the family out.
The townhomes here were built in 1984, 341 of them on 35 acres and seven streets, all recorded against ten ground parcels in the way the county handles attached ownership. The association runs two pools, two tennis courts and two basketball courts, and the whole community feeds Lake Forest Elementary, Serrano Intermediate and El Toro High.

Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park holds 1,575 acres of county open space against the north edge of the city, and the city's trail map carries 49 named trails.
Across the whole city the general plan sets 3,756 acres to residential use and 3,065 acres to open space and parks, which is why so much of Lake Forest reads as green from the ridgelines.
