            History

            How Somerset Point was built

Most of the streets in Somerset Point end the same way: Spindlewood, Weatherwood, Rainwood, Shadywood, Bentwood, with Rustic Oak keeping the idea going. It is a small community, 141 homes on 44 acres, sitting high for its size at 468 feet to 612 feet, with every home draining to Aliso Creek.

The modern town began in 1959 with the Laguna Niguel Corporation and the 7,100 acre plan Victor Gruen drew for it. AVCO Community Developers bought the corporation in 1971, and Somerset Point came a decade later: the city's record runs its years built from 1981 to 1989 with a median of 1983, and 66 of the 141 homes carry 1983, so roughly half the community was finished in one year. The city records what the association maintains simply as slopes.
