Ocean Ranch is the largest of the associations that answer to Bear Brand, a master planned community of six sub communities on the coastal side of Laguna Niguel. The city's record runs its homes from 1958 to 2008 with a median of 1994 and 75 of them dated 1993.
The Moulton and Daguerre families divided the land in 1951, the Daguerres keeping 8,056 acres, and in 1954 they sold 7,200 acres to the Shumaker Group and 856 acres of oceanfront to George Capron, a former professional ballplayer who ran the ground as Capron Ranch. Ocean Ranch today is 414 addresses across 177 gated acres, with Bear Brand Road, Poppy Hills Road and Asilomar Road each running close to two thirds of a mile, and a median lot of a quarter acre.
