How Woodwinds was built
This corner was built as part of Aliso Viejo, the community the Mission Viejo Company laid out after buying the last 6,600 acres of the Moulton Ranch in 1976. Laguna Hills annexed it on 18 September 2000, about 149 residential acres together with Sheep Hills Park, a year before Aliso Viejo itself became a city. Woodwinds itself was built over a long stretch, from 1976 to 1997 with a middle year of 1985, which makes it one of the earliest starts and one of the later finishes in the annexed pocket.
The name suggests instruments, but every street inside it is a creek. Clear Creek, Deer Creek, Dry Creek, Elm Creek, Hidden Creek, Jasmine Creek, Laurel Creek, Oxbow Creek and Indian Creek, nine lanes and not a single exception. The neighboring communities took the matching half of the same list, the Hill Lanes, which is how you can tell the whole western quarter was laid out to one plan. The city counts 223 detached homes on about fifty acres, at a middle size of roughly 1,563 square feet with three bedrooms on small lots.
