How Brighton Ridge was built
The homes here went up between 1982 and 1987, with a middle year of 1985, while this was still unincorporated county territory. Eighty six percent of residents voted for cityhood on 5 March 1991, and Laguna Hills became a city on 20 December 1991. The city files the community in its Aliso Hills area, and Mendocino Park sits inside the boundary off Aliso Hills Drive.
For a place called Brighton Ridge, almost nothing on the street signs is English. The lanes are a tour of Spanish and Californian names: Los Cerros, the hills; La Cienega, the marsh; El Prado, the meadow; Alameda, the tree lined walk; plus Anacapa for the Channel Island, San Pedro and Rio Grande. The houses match that generosity of scale, running to a middle size of about 2,155 square feet with four bedrooms, and the city has 49 of the 146 properties down as having a private pool.
