Fifteen acres on the most regular boundary the city draws anywhere, recorded and built inside one year.

            Overview

            About Huntington Court

Huntington Court covers 15.3 acres measured against the city's published boundary, and that boundary fills 100.0 percent of its own convex hull, the only community on this register with a perfectly convex shape. The address layer records 81 addresses inside the line and types 73 as residential, all classed single-family by the assessor, with one carrying a unit designator. Three named streets serve them across 0.51 miles: Santiago Drive, Belcaro Drive and Marino Lane.

The assessor's median building is 3,052 square feet with a tenth to ninetieth percentile band of 2,643 to 3,268, on a median lot of 6,600 square feet, and 43 of the 73 dwellings carry a pool, which is close to three in five. City zoning and the general plan both read the whole boundary as residential low density. The community sits outside the Coastal Zone appeal jurisdiction, Edison Park lies within 250 meters, and the bus stop layer records three stops within that distance.

            History

            How Huntington Court was built

Huntington Court is a small neighborhood of 73 homes on about 15 acres, every one of them built in 1987. Its three streets are Santiago Drive, Belcaro Drive and Marino Lane, which is Spanish and Italian naming on ground that grew celery and lima beans within living memory.

The farming here was serious business before it was anything else. From the 1890s to about 1910 this plain was one of the country's leading celery districts, thanks to cool salty breezes, artesian wells and rich soil, after David E. Smeltzer established the crop commercially in Orange County in 1891. A blight arriving around 1905 to 1908 took the money out of it and growers turned to sugar beets and winter cabbage. Then Standard Oil drilled its first successful Huntington Beach well in 1919 and the derricks began going up across the farms.
