How Pinehurst Estates was built
This is a different hill from the two Pinehurst communities out by the golf course. Pinehurst Estates sits in the Raymond Hills, the high ground of east Fullerton, on Skyline Drive, Ladera Vista Drive and Ridgetop Lane above Acacia Avenue. Fullerton Heritage puts this stretch of Skyline Drive squarely in the Raymond Hills area and describes what has gone up there since 1990 as large two-story houses in the Mediterranean Revival manner, which is a fair description of what stands behind this gate.
The hill had an earlier building era worth knowing about. In the 1920s Fullerton's mayor, Harry Crooke, and his syndicate developed Skyline Park nearby as a showcase for Spanish Colonial Revival, and the rule there was that no two houses would be designed and built the same. Seventy years later the slope got its second wave of houses, and Pinehurst Estates is part of it. The association behind roughly 45 homes was established in 1996.
