How Harbor Pointe was built
Harbor Pointe is on the inland edge of Corona del Mar, off San Miguel Drive, on ground the Irvine Company held as ranch land into the postwar decades and then developed piece by piece from the 1960s onward. The corner it occupies filled in late. Roger's Gardens moved to seven acres up the road on San Joaquin Hills Road in 1975 under Gavin Herbert Senior, bringing with it the original wooden bandstand gazebo from Main Street at Disneyland, and by then most of the hillside neighborhoods around here were already twenty years old.
This one was among the last of them. The layout was recorded at the end of 1980 and the houses went up through the middle of the decade, with the county carrying construction years on 20 homes from 1980 to 1986 and 14 of them reading 1985. There are 21 houses behind a gate on a single private street, which makes it the smallest detached community the city draws in Corona del Mar.
