How Native American Tract was built
The streets here are Apache, Blackhawk, Cherokee, Chippewa, Comanche, Iroquois, Mohawk, Mohican, Navajo and Shoshonee. It is worth saying plainly that not one of those peoples is from here. They come from the Plains, the Southwest and the Eastern Woodlands, and they arrived in Buena Park by way of the western films and television serials that were playing when the grid went in.
The people who actually lived on this ground were the Tongva, and their village of Juyubit stood beside Coyote Creek, a short distance east of these blocks, until Mission San Gabriel was founded in 1771 and the community was broken up by forced conversion and disease. Their name is on no street here. That absence is part of the history of the place, and a buyer who knows it will notice it every time they turn onto Comanche.
