How La Tract was built
This is the feminine drawer of Buena Park's Spanish filing system. La Casa is the house, La Corona the crown, La Costa the coast, La Mesa the table, La Fiesta the feast, La Carta the letter, La Castana the chestnut, La Canada a wooded ravine and La Palma the palm. Two of the streets are not words at all but neighbors: La Habra and La Mirada are the cities immediately north and northwest, so a driver on those blocks is pointed at the places they are named for.
About 475 homes sit on 118 acres here between Holder and Valley View, on lots near a seventh of an acre, and they went up in a single push: the county assessor dates 453 of the 455 homes it can date to the 1950s, one to the 1960s and one to the 1970s. The same hand named the surrounding grids by article, el to the west, los and san and santa around them, and via for the ways. It is a system rather than a mood, and it belongs to the decade when Buena Park went from farmland to suburb.
