How Country Road was built
Ponderosa Homes built Country Road between 1972 and 1976, and the city records 386 homes on thirty-two acres, most of them going up between 1972 and 1977. The typical home measures about 1,401 square feet on a lot of roughly a thirtieth of an acre. The association runs a clubhouse with a kitchen and fireplace, two pools including one kept for adults, a spa and a wading pool.
The streets sell a ranch that was never here. Buckboard Court and Wagon Wheel Circle are wagon parts, Calico is a horse's coat, and Prairie, Sage, Cactus, Butte, Rustic, Timberline, Panorama and Scenic Way fill out a western catalog on a piece of ground whose actual history is sheep, walnuts, oranges and crude oil. The city's tree inventory counts 153 trees inside the boundary, most of them Italian cypress, which is the one thing here that does not pretend to be from Wyoming.
