How Stonegate Hills was built
Stonegate Hills went up in the first wave of Anaheim Hills, with most of its 67 homes dating to 1976 and 1977. That is only four or five years after the first shovel. The ground was Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, granted to Jose Antonio Yorba and his nephew Juan Pablo Peralta in July 1810, then Bixby cattle range, and then the Nohl Ranch, which Louis E. Nohl took a deed to on 6 October 1943 and ran with 1,100 head of cattle and a stand of avocados.
On 30 October 1970 the Nohl family's 4,200 acres were deeded to Santa Anita Consolidated to start the planned community, and by August 1971 Texaco Ventures and Anaheim Hills, Inc. were building. The city had already put a 920 million gallon reservoir and a filtration plant into these hills in April 1970, which is what made housing at this elevation possible in the first place.
