How Hidden Canyon Estates was built
Hidden Canyon Estates is what the far end of the Anaheim Hills plan looks like when the lots stop shrinking. Sixty one houses spread over seventy five acres, the typical property better than an acre and a quarter, twenty eight of them with a pool. Avenida de Santiago runs through it and takes the name of the creek and the peak behind, and Tamarisk, Overlook and Tuckaway name the rest.
The houses here date from 1986 to 1994, with 1988 the median year, so this was built at the tail of the Anaheim Hills build out rather than the head of it. By then the city had annexed the Bauer, Oak Hills and Wallace ranches at the eastern edge, adding thirteen hundred acres, and nearly a thousand acres across the community had been handed to public agencies so the slopes would stay as they were. Anaheim Hills had been the first residential development anywhere to use landform grading, and by the late 1980s that approach was routine here, which is why a boundary this large holds so few houses.
