How Tustin Parc Apartments was built
The apartments on East Main Street were built in 1969, at the height of the decade that remade Tustin. The city's population grew by 1,012 percent through the 1960s, reaching 22,313, and Main Street, which had been the spine of a farm town, became the spine of a suburb.
Main Street is the original street. Columbus Tustin laid out his townsite around 1870 in blocks three hundred feet across, and one of the oldest buildings in it was a large unpainted two story structure at D and Main, built as a hotel and taken over for debts before it became a general store. In 1874 the Utt family moved into the residence part of it and hung out the sign reading L. Utt, Pioneer Store. It stayed in business for close to fifty years.
