A 2.4-acre community in Fountain Valley with 48 homes on the city's address record.

            Overview

            About Fountain Village Apartments

Fountain Village Apartments holds 48 homes on 2.41 acres, all of them addressed on La Alameda Avenue. The county assesses the property as a single land parcel of 105,133 square feet, so the homes are not separately assessed, and the city's landscape survey maps one swimming pool inside the boundary. Only Fountain Crest, Shadow Lane and Heil Park cover less ground among the 28 Fountain Valley communities on this site.

The general plan designates the whole property High Density Residential, which allows 15 to 30 homes to the acre, and FEMA places all of it in Zone X as an area with reduced flood risk due to levee. Fountain Valley School District's school locator assigns this address range to Plavan Elementary and Masuda Middle, and Huntington Beach Union High School District's boundary map puts it inside Fountain Valley High.

            History

How Fountain Village Apartments was built

Forty eight homes on two and a half acres, built in 1971, on La Alameda off Warner Avenue. La Alameda is Spanish for the tree lined promenade, from alamo, the poplar, and it belongs to a run of Spanish and northern California street names that a single builder laid through this part of Warner in the early 1970s, alongside La Hacienda, San Bruno and San Mateo.

The town here was Talbert, named for the family that bought over 300 acres around 1896 and ran the store. It became Fountain Valley in 1957, took its name from the artesian water that rose from a driven pipe, and grew from farm village to a city of nearly 32,000 people by 1970. Apartments like this one absorbed a good share of that arrival.
