How St. Moritz was built
St. Moritz carries 677 addresses on 28.4 acres and all of them sit on one street, Summerfield. The name belongs to the Swiss resort in the Engadine valley where alpine winter tourism was invented in 1864, when the hotel owner Johannes Badrutt bet his British summer guests that they would enjoy the place in winter and won. The town went on to host the Winter Olympics in 1928 and again in 1948.
The county approved the Aliso Viejo master plan in 1979 and the first homes in the city were offered for sale in March 1982. The ground under Summerfield was subdivided in 1989, years before Aliso Viejo was a city at all: it did not incorporate until 1 July 2001, when it became Orange County's thirty fourth city on a 93.3 percent yes vote.
