Overview
About Alicante
Alicante occupies 17.2 acres addressed off Aliso Creek Road, which is the only street name the city's address layer records inside the boundary. The city counts 430 addresses on a single mapped parcel, and 429 of them carry a unit designator. That is the fourth largest address count of the fifty Aliso Viejo communities on this site and, at 25 addresses to the acre, the second highest density among them. The zoning is Residential High Density, where the municipal code allows up to 30 units to the gross acre.
Hillview Park stands 343 feet from the boundary: 23.6 acres kept by the Aliso Viejo Community Association, with hiking trails, walkways, picnic tables and a drinking fountain. Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park begins 1,463 feet away, and Foxborough Park at seven acres is 1,864 feet off. Capistrano Unified's own address locator assigns this ground to Wood Canyon Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Don Juan Avila Middle and Aliso Niguel High.

How Alicante was built
Mexico granted the ground to Juan Avila in 1842 as Rancho Niguel, 13,316 acres named for the Acjachemen village of Niguili. Drought forced Avila out in 1865, and in 1895 Lewis Moulton and his partner Jean Pierre Daguerre bought the rancho and grew it into a working cattle ranch of about 22,000 acres that changed very little for eighty years. The Mission Viejo Company bought the last 6,600 acres of it in 1976, the county approved a master plan in 1979, and the first homes went on sale in March 1982.
Alicante is one of the rental communities built into that plan, about 430 addresses on 17.2 acres, almost all of them numbered as units inside a single address on Aliso Creek Road. The name belongs to the Mediterranean port on Spain's southeast coast, the Costa Blanca city under the Castle of Santa Barbara. Hillview Park sits a few hundred feet away and the wilderness park is less than a third of a mile off, which is the master plan working as intended.

Schools serving Alicante
Capistrano Unified serves Alicante, and the district's own address locator returns one set of campuses across the boundary: Wood Canyon Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Don Juan Avila Middle and Aliso Niguel High. Canyon Vista Elementary stands a little further off than Wood Canyon and is not the assignment, and Don Juan Avila Middle is the furthest of the six campuses below. The tiles carry federal enrollment counts and distances measured from the city's published boundary. Confirm the campus for a specific address with the district before it matters to an offer.

FAQs
Common questions about Alicante
How big is Alicante, and how many homes are there?
Measured against the boundary the City of Aliso Viejo publishes, Alicante covers 17.2 acres. The city's address layer records 430 addresses inside it, 429 of them carrying a unit designator, and its parcel layer records a single parcel underneath them.
What form does the housing take?
The city's record points to attached housing. All 430 addresses sit on one mapped parcel, 429 carry a unit number, and the ground is zoned Residential High Density, where the municipal code allows up to 30 units to the gross acre. The measured figure works out to 25 addresses to the acre.
Which schools serve Alicante?
Capistrano Unified's own address locator returns Wood Canyon Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Don Juan Avila Middle and Aliso Niguel High, and it returns the same three at every interior point across the boundary. Wood Canyon enrolled 425 students on the 2024-25 federal count, Don Juan Avila Middle 863 and Aliso Niguel High 2,563. Don Juan Avila Middle is the furthest of the six nearby campuses, at 1.25 miles, which is why distance does not settle the question.
How close is the open space?
Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park begins 1,463 feet from the boundary. OC Parks runs it across roughly 4,500 acres with more than 30 miles of official trails, two year round streams under mature oaks and sycamores, and a wildlife sanctuary designation. Hillview Park, at 23.6 acres, is much nearer at 343 feet.
Who maintains the common areas?
The Aliso Viejo Community Association is the master association for the whole city and keeps the parks, greenbelts, parkways and slopes that lie outside the individual tracts. Inside the Alicante boundary the city's landscape maintenance layer records 1.2 acres filed as slopes.
